"The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake." Psalm 23:1-3
It is interesting that we humans can receive amazing blessing in this life
and yet our souls can be in distress, needing to be restored. In Psalm 23
the writer is cared for by the greatest shepherd of all. He knows he has
everything he wants and he is in a place of peace seated by the still, calm
waters. Yet a work still needs to be done with his soul. David, the writer
of this Psalm, certainly is a good example of someone who needed to be
restored. Psalm 51:12 speaks of a pleading for the restoring of that joy of
his salvation. But what does restoring the soul mean? Based on the most common usage in previous occasions in the Old Testament, it means to be given back what was previously owned. Sometimes we, like David, need a real work of God in our hearts to lift our spirits and restore our souls. David is changed when he becomes aware of the Shepherd’s constant presence with him through both the low valleys and in the tables of plenty. He shows his change in his heart by writing that good things will always follow him and his future hope is assured.
Please join us in prayer for two of our children who have recently lost parents. Miriam is in grade four at our school at Monkey Fountain. Her father has been sick for a few weeks and passed away on the 1st of October. Miriam is now a double orphan. Please pray for someone with a Godly heart to care for Miriam and her siblings. She was living with her father and stepmother and in Zambian culture the step-mother often will not accept the burden of caring for children who are not her own. Nicolas is also in grade four and stays at Eagles Wings under our Full Care Program. Nicolas heard that his mother, who lives in Lusaka, was very sick. He was taken to Lusaka only to discover that his mother had died the night before and he was too late to see her one last time. Nicolas is now a double orphan as well but thankfully has a home and family at Eagles Wings. Please pray for Miriam, Nicolas and their brothers and sisters as they face life without their parents. Please pray that they will know God’s presence and comfort. Pray that loving, Godly homes would be found for all the children. FROM PREVIOUS UPDATESStaff Training
Both weeks of professional development
have taken place and were an
immense blessing to our staff. The
first week of the holidays saw our
teachers learn more about teaching
English, Christian education,
learning in community, behaviour
management and assessment. The
teachers enjoyed their training so
much that most of them returned
the following week, in their holidays,
to receive training in report and proposal
writing and assessment.
Short-termers
Kate Tucker and Shay Helmbock,
education graduates from the USA,
have joined us at Eagles Wings for
just over three months. Since arriving
in Zambia, Kate and Shay have
participated in professional development
with our teachers and have been assisting in the medical clinic. Their main role in the
coming months will be to teach in grade four and ensure the
older students in particular are ready to move onto grade
five in 2008.
NEW PRAISE AND PRAYER POINTSMedical TeamA doctor, dentist, dental nurse and a host of helpers arrived at Eagles Wings in late September to conduct a free medical clinic. After settling in and setting up they began a week long clinic treating children from our school, their families, community members and Eagles Wings’ staff. On Sunday the 30th of September they headed 200km from Ndola to Ngabwe, a village with 400 patients to see over two days. |
