The king of Israel answered, “Tell him: ‘One who puts on his armor should not boast like one who takes it off.’" I Kings 20:11 There are not many wise sayings that came from the lips of Ahab, King of Israel, but this was one of them. It is similar to a saying of Paul in 2 Timothy 4:7-8, ‘I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith…now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness…’ At this stage, Paul is at the point of ‘taking off his armor’.
It is one thing to enter a battle full of confidence, well fed, well armed, well protected and no enemy threatening us. It is another thing coming away from the battle weary, hungry, shell-shocked, wounded and disheveled. Although many of them go in boasting of their abilities, not many war weary solders like to talk about the experiences. But it is written on their faces.
When we go into battle for God we need to be realistic of our capabilities and the enemy we face because when we ‘take that armor off’ many of us will be painfully aware we would not have even survived if it wasn’t for God’s leadership, His strength, His support and encouragement. This battle is even more difficult when we seek to work for him in a foreign land where we are confronted with unexpected attacks from unknown quarters and with new devices of the enemy. Pray that all God’s workers both at home and abroad will fight the fight, finish the race, keep the faith and receive the crown. FROM PREVIOUS UPDATES

Eagles Wings Head Teacher, Daniel, reflects on the end of term being a time of joy and fulfillment. Praise FocusThe Eagles Wings crop of maize is almost ready to harvest. Lackson reports that this year they have been blessed with a great crop. The maize should be enough to see us through to the next wet season without having to purchase any additional maize or maize products. Please join us as we praise God for His provision of this important food source. |
