David replied, “No, my brothers, you must not do that with what the Lord has given us. He has protected us and handed over to us the forces that came against us. Who will listen to what you say? The share of the man who stayed with the supplies is to be the same as that of him who went down to the battle. All will share alike.” 1 Samuel 30:23-34

The army of David had won a great battle but two hundred of the soldiers were too weary to keep up with the rest of the group and had stayed behind to guard the equipment and food. After the battle, the group that had been at the frontline felt the rest should not share in the rewards of battle. The wisdom of David here demonstrates the heart of God, as expressed in the New Testament in John 4:36, that those who sow and those who reap shall rejoice together.

We sometimes think that those going out as missionaries are special people, in the frontline of mission work. However the battle and the victory celebrations must include those that stay and support the soldiers at the frontline. Because they were part of the work, they equally shall share in the rejoicing as one more soul is won for the Kingdom. If it was not for the quiet and constant work of supporters, not one missionary would leave the shores of any land, accomplish God’s work and fulfill the Great Commission. Let’s continue to work together to see God’s Kingdom advance!

FROM PREVIOUS UPDATES

Douglas Chinda – Douglas’ surgery to remove the lower part of his leg was successful and Douglas is making a remarkable recovery. He now has a prosthetic limb and is walking without a crutch for the first time in his life!
Praise God – For the success of the surgery and Douglas’ amazing attitude through the whole experience. - For opening doors through Douglas’ surgery for Helen, who was in Lusaka to support Douglas and his mother, to share the Word of God with other mothers at the hospital with their children.
Please Pray – For Douglas, as he continues to recover and adjust to life with his new leg. - For Douglas’ friends, family, peers and community. Pray that they would continue to encourage and love Douglas.

Clayton and Anna Hinds – What was supposed to be a one night stay in Lusaka at the end of March turned into four nights after Anna became too sick to travel and had to be hospitalized. While returning from getting money from town, Clayton was robbed, the thief running off with Clayton’s wallet only to return a few moments later to tell him where the wallet was. The thief forgot to mention he had taken all the cash!
Praise God – That Anna is well again and back at work at Eagles Wings. - That Clayton’s wallet was returned. - For His protection over Clayton and Anna in Lusaka.
Please Pray – For complete recovery and health for Anna.

streetboy.jpg Research in Malawi – At the beginning of March, Lackson, Reid and Chantelle traveled to Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi, to conduct research into the situation of street children. Some of the issues associated with these children are very similar to those in Zambia and as in many cases the need is far greater than the assistance given. Many children are suffering on the streets and God willing in time we will be able to expand into Lilongwe to join the fight for these children. Due to the current situation in Lesotho we had to delay this research until mid May.

Prayer Focus

The end of March saw the arrival of the 30-strong Building Team from Australia. The team had just a weekend to settle and recover from jetlag before beginning the hard work Project Manager, Burton, had in store for them. The team will be putting the roof on Stage 2, putting windows into Stage 1, landscaping, wiring the school, repairing plumbing, repairing the bus and performing general maintenance around Eagles Wings.
Please pray for the Building Team as they complete these many tasks over the coming three weeks. Pray for physical and emotional strength and health for all the team members. Pray for unity among the team and also between the team and the Zambians they will work alongside. Mostly, pray that God would be glorified through their lives and work.

NEW PRAISE & PRAYER POINTS

Full Care Children – Most of the children in Eagles Wings Full Care Program come to us after years of neglect, abuse and life on their own on the streets. With this life experience behind them it is not surprising that they also come to Eagles Wings with negative behaviour and bad habits. Over time, the majority of the children are transformed through the love of Christ, shown through His people. Some of the children however continue with those bad habits and behaviour from the streets.
Praise God – For the changes in attitude and behaviour that we are seeing in many of the children’s lives.
Please Pray – For those children who are continuing to live by the rules of the street. Pray that their eyes would be open to see that following God’s rules leads to life. - For their teachers. Pray that they would have wisdom in encouraging and disciplining these children. - For their guardians, including Lackson and his family. Pray for wisdom as they determine gracious, yet firm discipline.

Praise Focus

While the new Eagles Wings bus was in excellent condition when purchased in Dubai, by the time it reached Dar Es Salaam the brand new tyres had been replaced with tyres so old they would not safely drive out of Dar Ed Salaam, the alternator needed replacing, two new batteries needed to be purchased, the spare tyre was missing and various parts inside the bus had been unscrewed and stolen. After spending days running around Dar Es Salaam making repairs, Reid and Brad along with Chantelle finally left for the journey to Ndola. The drive to Eagles Wings was just as challenging! Due to extra expenses in Dar Es Salaam by the time they reached the Tanzania/Zambia border there was no cash and no ATM until Ndola. The clearing agent, a lovely Christian man named Arnold, had to use his own money to get the bus cleared and then travel all the way to Ndola to get paid!

Once in Zambia the bus broke down three times. The third time there was no restarting it and Reid and Chantelle had to travel back to Ndola to organize a tow, leaving Brad waiting in the bus. Hours later, Reid returned with a truck and Brad and Reid spent the next four hours being towed in the dark with no headlights working and no street lamps!

There were many times along the way when it seemed the bus would go no further. But at every challenge and every turn, God provided. By His grace and with His help, Eagles Wings now has a bus. Please join us in praising God for His provision. Regardless of how difficult the journey was or how many times the Devil tried to make it fail, the destination was reached and the battle was won!
