Praise & Prayer - December 2006

When Jesus came to earth he not only fulfilled the law but he seemed to raise the bar to another level. The Commandment that says we are ‘not to bare false witness against a neighbour’ is not good enough. The more expanded saying that we should 'love our neighbours and hate our enemies' also did not go far enough! Jesus expects us to 'love our enemies and
pray for those that persecute us.' It is one thing to love our neighbours, most of them are very good people. It is another thing entirely to love those that seek to do us harm. However, we need to remind ourselves that Jesus never asked us to do anything he himself was not prepared to do. We would still be a condemned people if Jesus was not prepared to ‘die
for us while we were his enemies’ (Romans 5:10). On the mission field it is one thing to love the children. It is another thing to love those that oppose the work. If we cannot do better than the world, we are no better than the world and have not learnt anything from the example left by Jesus.

FROM PREVIOUS UPDATES

1. Lackson in Australia – Lackson’s tour of Australia has come to an end after visits to Melbourne and Tasmania. Throughout the tour many people were touched and inspired by Lackson’s personal experience growing up and his heart for Zambia’s children and his community. Lackson experienced a very different Christmas in Australia but was eager to head home to his many children on the 27th of December. From October to December sufficient funds were received to:
• purchase a 30-seater bus
• purchase and feed around 200 laying chickens for 14 months
• purchase a laser printer and LCD monitors for the school.
Most importantly, many more people throughout Australia have heard about Eagles Wings and the plight of Zambia’s suffering children.
Praise God – For the bus, chickens, office equipment and numerous sponsorships and general donations received.
- For enabling Lackson to communicate the history, mission and vision of Eagles Wings so clearly.
- For touching people’s heart through Lackson and Eagles Wings.
Please Pray – For Lackson as he settles back into life in Zambia and at Eagles Wings.
- That the poor of this world would be remembered daily by God’s people here in Australia.

2. American Office – Kate, Beth and Maegan are experiencing difficulties setting up an office for Eagles Wings in America. Difficulties they are encountering include not being able to gain tax deductibility status and not having enough finances.
Praise God – That He has a plan and can make a way in even the most difficult circumstances.
Please Pray – That God would lead Kate, Beth and Maegan in the way they should go with the office and that God would open doors according to His will.
- For people who are passionate and committed to Eagles Wings to help.
- For money for a beginning.
- For upcoming speaking engagements.

3. Stage 2 – David, our Grade 2 teacher and temporary administrator writes, The work at the building is going on well. Only three people are working on it and that is Burton the Project Manager, Frazer and Alfred. Thank God that the building has reached top plate height and thank God for the strength that He has given these people to build this building and for all the people that have given us finances, people that have made it possible for this job to be done. Also continue to pray for the people working on this building that God will continue keeping them in unity. This includes the African Quest team who have been working alongside our Zambian staff.

4. Full Care Children – Many of the children in our Full Care Program are still on holidays, visiting with their families. David has requested prayer for these children and their families.
Please Pray – That God will keep them away from evil things.
- For their parents that God will show them a better way of keeping their children.

5. Mavis, Head Teacher – Our Head Teacher, Mavis, became ill and had to leave us only a few weeks into the school year. She was unable to eat, walk or even get out of bed for a while. During this time the doctor discovered she was pregnant. Marvis has given birth to a baby boy. However, Marvis is still not fully recovered.
Please Pray – For healing and strength for Marvis.
- For Marvis and her family as they care for the new baby.

NEW PRAISE & PRAYER POINTS

1. Christmas – David has written briefly about Christmas being a time where people in the compounds of Zambia participate in evil practices. Advice and help from traditional doctors and witchcraft is sought after year-round among the shanty communities outside Ndola.
Praise God – That He has power over all evil and we need not fear.
Please Pray – For the adults and children in the communities of Overspill, Twapia, Kanyala, Bunga and Chipulukusu.
- For God’s Word to be understood by the people to be a light and guide in times of trials and suffering, rather than turning to evil.
- For the salvation and growth of the adults and children in these communities.

2. End of School Year – School holidays have begun in Zambia marking the end of a challenging and exciting first year of Eagles Wings Christian Community School (EWCCS). Children who once hated school now arrive before the teachers do and are so eager to learn. Other children that rarely smiled now sing and laugh as they learn and play.
Praise God – For sustaining the teachers and children through the first year of EWCCS.
- For the progress of the school that is impacting so many lives.
Please Pray – For the children of EWCCS as they enjoy their holidays. Pray that they will continue to be God-fearing children.
- For the teachers, David, Maureen, Daniel, Sylvia and Augustine as they rest and prepare for the coming school year.

3. Reid and Chantelle – Reid and Chantelle Anderton will be returning to Zambia on the 31st of December after 4 months in Australia. God willing, they will be in Zambia for 10 months next year. They will be moving into the shanty compound next to Eagles Wings, where they will live in a mud brick house. Reid will continue assisting in the coordinating of the Programs.
Chantelle hopes to work with the children more, teaching, tutoring and mentoring and work alongside the teachers.
Praise God – For the rest and reconnecting with friends and family they experienced in Australia.
Please Pray – For their adjustment to life back in Zambia, including the move into Overspill.
- For open hearts to God’s will for their lives and ministry in Zambia.
