We greatly appreciate all who unswervingly continue to share, support and be a voice for those in need. Proverbs 31:8-9 "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy."
LOOKING BACK... Lackson in Australia
After months of preparation, Lackson stepped onto his first plane and for the first time left his home, his family and his county for the benefit of the community he loves so much. Lackson writes of his journey My journey to Australia was an adventure. I climbed the stairs on the runway and boarded the plane in Lusaka and took off for Johannesburg. People were trying to scare me about flying, but I was fine. When I arrived in Johannesburg I climbed down the stairs again and a bus took us to the airport. I stayed the night in a fancy hotel and even ordered supper in my room! The next day I was back at the airport to board the plane. I followed everyone down a long tunnel to get onto the plane. There were many seats and people started to sit down. I thought they must be having a cup of tea. I walked past the rows of chairs until I reached a wall and an airhostess asked me what I was doing. I told her I was looking for the stairs to get on the plane! She asked me if this was my first time on a plane. I wanted to say no but the Holy Spirit was convicting me to tell the truth. So I said yes. She told me I was already on the plane and helped me find my seat! Lackson's visit to Australia is a tremendous opportunity for all who have partnered in giving and in prayer but have never had the opportunity to visit Eagles Wings in Zambia to meet with Lackson and hear first hand of the ministry that has changed the lives many. Harvey Norman Foundation Throughout history there have been many cases where the drive for profit results in large scale devastation to individuals, families and countries. As implied in Deuteronomy 15 the poor are the result of man's greed. It is in this light that when companies rise up against this to share the profits with the communities around them that we must stand besides them and say thank you.
What makes a company chose a small organization in a small community in Zambia? There is no gain, there is no profit other than the profit of transforming lives. This really is the responsibility of companies and all who live in developed countries to see the poor lifted up around the world. So we say a huge thank you to the Harvey Norman Foundation and honor you in the way that you are sharing your profit to communities not just in Australia but in a small community on the other side of the globe. May other companies take up the challenge and share in this innovative way of transforming the lives of the poor. MEET STEVEN NGOSA...
What is better about Eagles Wings than the streets? One - The school, which will make me become a success. Two - Clothes, because they make me look nice. Three - Food, because it makes me healthy and fit. What do you want to do when you finish school? I would like to be a pilot because I like flying in the air so I can be moving in different countries. And so I can tell Ba David he can come to Australia without a ticket. What do you do on the weekend? I like doing work, any work that is given. I like harvesting the maize. I also like relaxing and playing with my friends. Where do you sleep at Eagles Wings? I sleep in a unit and it is brown in color. Inside it there are eight bunk beds. We sleep two per bed. There are three windows and curtains. It has iron sheets on top. It has power inside. Have you been anywhere apart from Ndola? I have lived in other towns, like Kitwe and another country - not just Zambia - in the Congo. I used to speak another language. I have only just learnt Bemba since I moved to Zambia. What have you been learning about God? God is our Creator. He is the one who brought us into this world. The reason we are here is to always rely on Him and worship Him. LOOKING AHEAD... Promotional Tour The month of November will see Lackson fly from Brisbane to Sydney to continue the promotional tour through Eastern Australia. Many churches, small groups, meeting and activities have been organized to keep Lackson busy! His time to date in Brisbane has been, in his words, "a holiday" compared to the life he lives back in Zambia. Married in 2005, Anna and Clayton knew God's call on their lives would lead them to use their skills and talents to minister to disadvantaged children. Clayton has spent the last 3 years as a policy and media adviser to Queensland Parliamentarians and will use these skills to be the new Eagles Wings Administrator. Anna is a registered nurse with experience in intensive care, orthopedics and gynecology. Anna will use these skills to provide health education to the children at Eagles Wings and take a leading role in health education to the surrounding communities. We look forward to their arrival in the beginning of February 2006! Busing to Eagles Wings Ever since Eagles Wings began, the mode of transport for staff has been either our feet or the public transport system, which in Zambia is sometimes unreliable at best! Each morning we know that we are faced with a 20 minute walk to the bus stop, a 20 minute wait until the bus has been filled to overflowing, a 20 minute trip into town stopping every minute either to drop someone off or to squeeze in another passenger, until finally we are in town to do business! While this is the day to day experience which keeps us fit and patient, the need for transport has become apparent to increase efficiency while at the same time cut costs for the hiring of one 30 seat bus each year for our Camp Program - $1500 for each 30 seat bus! We also envisage the bus being used to pick up children from Chipulukusu compound 25km away to attend our Community School. This compound is home to most of the children that beg in town or the families that either abandoned them or mistreated them so that they ran away to the streets. In January 2006, God willing, Eagles Wings will be purchasing a second hand 30 seat bus from Durban, South Africa. Reid and Chantelle Anderton will be driving it to Ndola, Zambia, a 4000km journey. To make this possible we require another $15,500 to purchase the bus. $14,500 has been already raised from some committed supporters. We also require much prayer for wisdom in purchasing and safety in the journey from Durban, South Africa to Ndola, Zambia. FINANCES FOR THIS QUARTER...
