Micah 6:8 "He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."From a child?s viewpoint ? During the recent field trip to the south of Zambia (the focus of our last newsletter), the children completed education sheets about their experiences. Here is a sample of the responses of these beautiful children ? Describe Victoria Falls. How did you feel?Stanley 14 ? the water was going down then coming up as rain. I was happy and threw a stone off and never saw it land.
Favourite part of the camp?John 16 ? I was so excited to see everything ? it was as if I was not in Zambia. Fenwell 15 ? sleeping together, going out in the bus because it was exciting. We went to the town of Zimbabwe.
What have you learnt from the sharing times and the camp in general?Stanley 14 ? game park ? because there were different animals and I had never seen them before. Belita 12 ? everything as I have never travelled out of Ndola. All the animals have beautiful colours. Suzyo 15 ? God gives me everything I need that?s why I will never
stop praising Him. My camp experience is something that I will never
forget.
We in the West can learn much from these children! Thank you for your
prayers and support for this first field trip. Please continue to pray
for each one of them, especially the 38 children who have received
Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour either during or just before the
camp.Margaret 8 ? If I have two dresses I have to share and give one of the dresses to another person. I learnt how to pray. We did a treasure hunt and I found 8 lollies. Fenwell 15 ? I became a Christian today ? 12th of July. I prayed to God and asked Him to forgive my sins and for Him to be King of my life. New Primary School The newest development at Eagles Wings is the construction of a primary school to cater for over 270 disadvantaged children! As you know, we strongly believe that receiving an education is vital if children are to be able to break out of the poverty cycle and be able to make a valuable contribution to their community as adults. Education is considered a basic human right, but sadly in Zambia too many never receive this right ? over 25% of female adults and nearly 15% of male adults are illiterate (CIA World Factbook, December 2003). And it is the poor and needy who consistently miss out on the opportunity to receive an education. Whilst Eagles Wings has been helping nearly 100 children receive an education in government schools, we have felt the need to do more and we believe that by establishing a Christian primary school, we will be able to meet the educational needs of many more children (as well as adults through night classes). It also by-passes the problems of teacher strikes which are frequent and prolonged in Zambia due to the inability of the government to pay their wages, sometimes for months at a time. Completion of stage 1 (3 classrooms, 1 toilet block and associated store and staff room) by the end of 2005 will enable classes to begin at the start of the 2006 school year and it is envisaged that stage 2 (4 classrooms and associated store and staff room) will be completed by the end of 2006. A team of education background people in the Brisbane area have begun meeting to put a syllabus based on the current Zambian government school syllabus as well as Christian principles. The school will be a place where disadvantaged children not only learn to read and write, but also learn about our heavenly Father?s great love for them. Please pray for this school project:
If you?re interested in getting involved, there are 2 key areas besides your vital prayer support where we need your help:
