?Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.? Mark 9:37The new primary school starts to take shape? With Reid and Chantelle?s return to the farm in mid-December, plans, preparations and construction of the new primary school building began in earnest. It is nothing short of amazing how much God has enabled the team to achieve in such a short time despite the wet season weather ? it is now up to slab level already! But as Reid has commented, ?never again in the wet season!?. The goal for the construction is that by the end of this year, 3
classrooms, 1 toilet block and associated store and staff room will be
complete and ready for the new school term at the beginning of 2006.
The majority of this work will be carried out by ex-pat volunteers as
well as Zambian nationals who will receive a fair wage. Even some of
the older boys at the Eagles Wings farm have really enjoyed the
opportunity to use up a bit of energy during their holidays and earn a
few Kwacha. It is wonderful to see the community involved in a project from which they will benefit. When complete, the school will cater for over 270 disadvantaged or orphaned children from the surrounding area (who normally would not have the opportunity to attend school) giving them a Christian-based education and opportunities for a brighter future. As part of His wonderful provision, our Lord has brought along a very gifted and capable Zambian project manager ? Barton Musonda ? who has already saved Eagles Wings time and money (which has in turn enabled us to employ Barton and Jimmy, Lackson?s son). Following blue prints provided by the Zambian Education Department for schools just like ours, Barton will continue working on the construction with a team of helpers after Reid and Chantelle return to Australia mid- February and aims to have the school up to roof level before the Australian building team arrives in May. This building team and Barton will then spend 4 concentrated weeks working on the construction. It?s also a wonderful opportunity for us to work in partnership again with Mobile Mission Maintenance (MMM), a Christian building agency which provides vocational training to Zambian nationals. MMM students have started the toilet block which will also will be up to roof level by May.
