Praise & Prayer May 08 Print E-mail

"Go and tell Hezekiah, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears: I will add fifteen years to your life". Isaiah 38:5

There are many needs in this world today that we ought to pray for and trust God to hear us and respond to what we have prayed for. Many times we pray with our lips and not with the heart and are surprised when nothing changes. When our heart is not in our prayers then it can simply be ‘vain repetition’ and meaningless words that can be repulsive to God. Conversely, there is no point in being driven to tears over things that happen in our life or to others and not bringing them to God in prayer. It is not the tears that are significant, but tears can be a sign that a person is earnest in his prayers. As James 5:16 puts it, ‘The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.’ When something touches you deeply and burdens your heart, then bring it to God in prayer. God will see your heart, hear your prayer, feel your distress and meet your need. Let’s put our heart into our prayers.

FROM PREVIOUS UPDATES

Registering of Eagles Wings (Australia)

AugustineRegistration of Eagles Wings in Australia as a recognized organisation is moving closer to completion. A draft constitution and statement of faith has been completed and directors for the new organization have been approached, with all accepting the voluntary position.

Please Pray

  • As we continue to finalize the constitution and statement of faith.
  • For the directors over the coming months as they begin their new roles.

Praise God

  • For the many people within Australia that have contributed to the growth of Eagles Wings in Zambia through their passion for assisting children living in poverty.

Documentary Launch Lusaka

Although it is hard to gauge if the launch is on track to be a success, all possible leads and meetings have been followed through. We now have to leave this in God’s hands to see what outcome there will be. We possibly will have the Minister of Community Development and Social Services, Hon. Catherine Numugala, as the guest speaker, depending on the result of a meeting with her Protocol Officer that should take place this month. UNICEF is involved and will supply all the media contacts and also take part in the launch. Pastors are our main focus group though as we look to communicate the urgency of assisting orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) to churches. We hope that churches not involved in ministering to OVCs will begin to pray about how they can join the battle.

Please Pray

  • For pastors who will be invited. Pray
that they will attend the launch, have
their hearts touched by the message
    and want to become involved.

Camp Program 2008

Camp 2008 is almost upon us! Once again 40 disadvantaged children will travel to Livingstone for nine days. Over the past few months, many would have heard of the exciting advances that will occur in the program over the coming years and we look forward to seeing that vision unfold. In the meantime though, we have 40 children that are ready and waiting to take part in Camp 2008.

Please Pray

  • That God will move in the hearts of the children and the leaders that take part. Pray for wisdom as Clayton organizes and leads the whole experience in partnership with International Teams.

Praise God

For Toongabbie Baptist, who have funded Camp 2008, and all who make this event possible. The impact that this camp experience has on the lives of these children is enormous. Many children from previous camps recount that this is where they made a commitment to follow Christ.

NEW PRAISE & PRAYER POINTS

Vice Principal Position

Daniel (our Principal) will, over the coming months, have to choose a Vice Principal for our Monkey Fountain Campus. After recognizing the need for such a role due to the growth of the school, a donor contributed funds for this position for the first 12 months.

Please Pray

  • As Daniel starts the process of filling the position.

Praise God

  • For the way in which he worked in the heart of the donor for such a gift. It will bring a new and positive dimension to the work of the Monkey Fountain Campus.

Change of Registration From Community School to Private School

The Zambian government has released a new policy guiding the governance of community schools. Simply put this means that they would take over the operating and staffing capacity of Monkey Fountain Campus. This new policy meant that Eagles Wings had to make an urgent decision if we stayed registered as a community school or re-register as a private school. As a private school we would remain in control of our staff and vision. Daniel (our Principal) and his teaching staff were in charge of making recommendations to the Board of Directors as to which way Eagles Wings moved. After looking through all possibilities, they recommended that we re-register as a private school.

Please Pray

  • For the process of registration as a private school to go without any complications. Daniel will start the process next week, which includes inviting government inspectors to come and visit the school, who will in turn make recommendation to the Ministry of Education as to our capabilities. An important note to this new registration of the Monkey Fountain Campus is that we will continue to operate as we have, with orphans and vulnerable children our only focus.

Girls Group

Over the past 12 months, Anna, our nurse, has established a girls group coming both from the community and the school, teaching them health and life skills and holding prayer and devotions with them. This group might just be a light to help our young girls rediscover their purpose in life.

Please Pray

  • For Anna. Pray that God may show her specific areas to address.
  • Pray that God may raise someone with a similar passion for the group to take over from Anna once she leaves for Livingstone in January 2009.

Prayer Points

Land for Stage 3 and 4

The issue of obtaining land for the completion of the school is becoming a concern as the man who owned the land previously is challenging the Lands Department's decision to repossess his land. Repossessing undeveloped land is common practice and legally acceptable
within Zambia if the current lease holder does not develop within a given time. Eagles Wings is pushing for the certificate daily and are praying the Ministry holds up their decision to give us the land. Without this land it becomes difficult to complete the Monkey Fountain Campus. This would be a huge disappointment to the community.

Please Pray

  • As Lackson and Clayton continue to pursue this, that the best outcome for our community will occur. Pray that God will be honored through our dealings with all parties.

Praise Points

A New Baby

Sarah Kapobe, our Adult Education Coordinator, has given birth to a happy and healthy girl, called Beauty. As her last pregnancy ended with the loss of her child and almost loss of her own life, this is fantastic news for both her immediate family and the wider family of Eagles Wings. Praise God for this outcome after such an uncertain period.

Adult Education – Tailoring

Our tailoring students that finished the literacy and numeracy component of the Adult Education Program (AEP) are doing very well in their small business project. They have sewn 70 uniforms for SAO Zambia students. The women are now able to work on their own with very minimum supervision. Their participation and attendance has been great. The successful results of the 2007 – 2008 students have motivated the 2008 – 2009 intakes.

Please Pray

  • For the participants undertaking the small business component of the AEP. Pray that they raise enough money to buy their own machines and starts their own businesses.
