"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Hebrews 12:1
Who are these witnesses? As we read in Hebrews 11:33-40, they are those who have suffered terribly in this life. None of them have received what they had been promised and, according to Hebrews 11:40, they will not be complete without us. No wonder they are surrounding us eagerly, waiting for us to complete our course! When we are all together they will finally be complete. How humbling, that for all they suffered, they must wait for us who have known little of suffering. How gracious of God that we should be included with such as Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Abraham and others. No wonder we should “run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”

"Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.” Psalm 143:8
It is good to know that when the night has passed the morning will again remind us of God’s
unfailing love. What was true during the night is true in the morning: God’s unfailing love
continues to surround us. When the night brings you the feeling of being alone and unloved,
wake up to the brightness of the day and feel the warmth of His love shining down on you.

"See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.” 1 John 2:24
As the journey of life takes us to new places and through many new experiences our mind can become crowded with many memories. Even though we grow and mature and have many new experiences and memories we should not allow them to replace the message we first heard or the Saviour we first came to know. We need to remember where we came from and who we have a relationship with so that we remain humble and continue to enjoy a close relationship with our Heavenly Father.

"Now if we are children, then we are heirs – heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” Romans 8:17-18
These verses are clear in what they say, but sometimes hard to understand. The grace of God overflows to us as we will receive all that Christ has received, even though our worst suffering would never compare to the depth of suffering that Christ endured on earth. It is also a comfort to know that our loved ones who have passed on are, right now, enjoying that new glorified life. Be encouraged when life does not always go smoothly that we will, one day, be enjoying all that God has prepared for us. Will we ask ourselves, “Why did I ever complain?” when whatever suffering we experience in this life we were asked to endure?
